Engaging locally
As a church we aim to be outward looking and engage with the community around us. Building genuine friendships with people is of crucial importance, and we have a number of folk who visit homes in the local community every week, building relationships, demonstrating that we care and encouraging people to discover that there is so much more to life. While building and maintaining friendships through which we can show and share the love of Jesus is priority, we also run programmes and courses such as our weeknight Alpha Courses and our Friday lunchtime lite bite courses which give people the opportunity to explore Christianity. Such courses have also spawned groups for those starting out in their walk with Jesus. We have been encouraged to see God at work, transforming lives, one at a time.
We also run an SU group in our local primary school each week, and open up our church welcome area both on Wednesdays and Fridays for people to drop in for coffee and a chat and various activities.
As well as encouraging and equipping our members to live their lives for Jesus whether they are at home, work, among friends or wherever, at times during the year we also provide opportunity for our members to become involved in a special season of outreach in our local community. We do this through our special Connect Season. During this season which runs each year from April to June, we have teams who carry out practical tasks such as gardening, who organise special children's and young people's activities in the local park, who visit many of the homes in our community talking with people and offering prayer where appropriate. We also hold special connect events such as a football tournament for men, pampering night for women, a family fun day, and a special service for the community and BBQ.
